Bill Gates Words of Wisdom
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss
Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault , so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now.
They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were.
So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT.
In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer.
This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters.
You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

I bet those kids were disapointed with that speech... they were probably hoping for a way to earn themselves a million.
Re: Bill Gates Words of Wisdom
Yeah well I hope they were nice to the nerd
Just spotted your tag line at the bottom. I like it !!!

Re: Bill Gates Words of Wisdom
Its a "Twilight" thing. The main love interest Edward Cullen, is the vampire who drives a silver Volvo. "Its fast without being ostentatious".
Having avoided the whole twilight thing for a while now i finally gave in before christmas when it was showing on sky movies and Dave said he was interested in watching. Since then i have bought and read all 4 books (5 if you include the recent short novella), own the first 2 films on DVD, own the first two soundtracks and have advance screening tickets to see Eclipse on the 3rd of July. Im not obsessed... its just a really good story.

Excellent
Heheheheh I hope you enjoy the latest one then
Me? I am of a mind to re read all the Enid Blyton books that I read as a child/early teenager
No vampires...some very British stiff upper lips and spare batteries galore for torches that seemed to go on for ever
What does that say about me ??
(were Volvo's even invented then??)

In that case i am one step ahead of you. I'm buying the Famous five collection for my 7 year old. Who is loving them. She says she feels like she is having an adventure too. Have been very tempted to pick them up and read along. She already has a list of books for me to buy for her (more Enid Blyton's) when she has finished the 21 books in the series.

I love Enid Blyton!
I had a collection of about thity books - but they were all ruined by mice and damp at the old house. I'd love to get them all again

Look on ebay, im picking up famous five books for around £2 inc postage. The ages of the books vary, as do the front covers. But they are all in really good condition.
