diabeteslist free classifieds supplies
Hello all,
My wife is a type 1 with insulin pump. We just started a free classifieds where people can list their excess diabetes supplies, pump supplies, and accessories. The site is new so there are only a few posts but please go and visit so we can get supplies mobilized to those who need them. The site is: http://www.diabeteslist.org

Re: diabeteslist free classifieds supplies
Hi,
I see from your website that you are in the USA (or at least your prices appear to be in US$). We all get test strips free in the UK via our Drs and many testing meters are free either from the Drs or via offers in various diabetes magazines or via flyers.
Personally I would be very cautious about using a second hand pump or supplies from another diabetic (here in the UK the NHS or the pump comapany's do not seem to want them back after transplant or other) and I can certainly understand the need for supreme care against any contamination etc of goods like this purchased.
What do others on here think??
Cheers
Nick

Pumps and Supplies
Hi Nick,
Yes I'm in the USA. If you've visited the web site and looked at the insulin pump category you'll see we don't approve of any used insulin pumps being donated or sold on our site as it is dangerous if the user is not trained under a physician. Also, the pump might be faulty or on the manufacturer's recall list. The pump supplies are a different story, however. As long as they are unopened and the expiration date hasn't been passed they should be safe. Here in the states you can't imagine how much money buying reservoirs and infusion sets cost. Most the time our insurance doesn't cover it. I don't know if you guys have heard but we have a giant health care battle going on. We sure are jealous of health care that you get in the U.K. Our test strips end up costing us $1.00 a strip. It is crazy that we don't have some kind of universal plan here. Even though I'm in the USA people can post from around the world on the site, even things like research studies or resources, etc.

Hi Billy,
Thanks for that. I know how expensive it is in the US and I feel for you all.
Take care and good luck with the web site.
Best wishes
Nick
