Is honey OK

Since the experts can't agree I tjought I'd ask real people instead.

Is honey OK for diabetics? I know refined sugar is a no and fruit sugar is better, but what about honey? I usually only have a spoomful in natural yoghurt or on cereal, Tried it in coffee and it tastes awfull, but is quite nice in some herbal and fruit infusions.

I would suggest you test yourself to see what happens to your own blood sugar when you use it. Everything is low sugar in very small amounts - but if it makes your blood sugar zoom up, it's much better to avoid it.

I don't have this problem, as I HATE honey!!!

I am type 2, on Insulin and Metformin, have tried just a bit of honey, I wouldnt recommend it, but if you feel fine, and you take a bit more insulin to counteract it why not, my sugar level went way up, so now avoid it, but that is me, if you feel happy then fine, but it is pure sugar so use very little in one portion and check your levels after 1/2 hour, and take it from there. from what i was told you can have anything you fancy but just dont go overboard and only a little, hope i have helped you a bit

honey and fruit sugar is a simple carbohydrate and should be treated the same as table sugar so if you allow yourself a little sugar at certain times then you could have a bit of honey instead, if you prefer. I would agree that testing is the best way to find out how it affects you.
