Baths
Are diabetics supposed to not have baths? It's late and I am tired and my grasp of the English language is slipping so that probably didn't make sense...
I love a good hot bath, but it's bad for my feet or something, isn't it...
Sometimes life is just too short.

Re: Baths
Nope it's not bad for your feet so long as you don't let them get too wrinkly and skin so hot and soft that you can't feel anything when you get out of the bath!
Dry between your toes doing a quick self health check at the time and slap a little bit of moisturising cream on afterwards....there job done!
BTW if you want to file off some hard skin on your feet do it BEFORE getting into the bath (not afterwards and def not when your IN the bath) else you'll take off too much and you'll have very sore feet.

Re: Baths
Thanks Nick - I love a bath a couple of times a week and I only stay in for 5 or 10 mins - I am not a soaker like my hubby.
Re: Baths
Dougs' feet are permanently freezing cold. I bought him a hot water bottle with a big fluffy cover so they don't warm up too quickly and he often wears thermal socks at bedtime (soooooo sexy ), but only until they start to warm up.
He's only usually home for two nights a week so there's not much I can do for his feet, but I usually massage them for him using a decent moisturiser and make sure they're warm before he has a bath or shower.
What else can he do?

Hey Clare,
Good idea warming them up before he gets into a bath. Gewohl do various products (if you want a list let me know) that are good for cold feet including a bath additive I think. They warm the feet up. The Gewohl products were started in 1868 by a pharmacist and are well thought by Pods and esp for diabetic feet.
Only thing I would be concerned about if he gets chillblains and you mustn't warm them up to quickly. Good heat reflective or heat holding insoles for his shoes are good especially the memory foam type.
Cheers
Nick
Re: Baths
I know all about chillblains, I suffered terribly with them as a child, that's why the hotty botty has a thick cover - it takes quite a while for the heat to come through
Yes please, I'd love a list of products. If they have a website could you put a link in Links? I know they'd get a lot of business from me

Re: Baths
I have a thermometer in my bath (tap end) as I like the water VERY HOT.
Been married going on for 27 years now and hubby has always had cold feet. As we got married in February his feet were colder than an icicle on an igloo, I decided I wasn't putting up woth cold feet on me for the rest of my life. The choic, a divorce or bed socks. I bought him some baby blue bed socks as he wouldn't wear the pretty pink ones. Perhaps a divorce would have been easier? The whole family now wears socks in bed now in the winter...
