One long lasting jab
Hi to you all,
My husband is a type 2 diabetic and I look after him. He used to be on tablets but has progressed to insulin.
He is to have one long lasting jab...... he is disabled and very inactive. He just potters about the house and when we go out he uses a scooter.
The dose started at 12 units for the first 3 days, then up to 16 units for 4 days and so on. At the minute he is up to 30 units per day and the nurse said it could go up to way over 40 units.
The reason he can't have the regular insulin jabs is because he has had strokes and consequently I would never be able to tell if he was having a hypo !!!!
Is anyone else in this position? I just feel a bit down about it all.

Hi Buffy
I'm sorry, I cannot help, but I am sending you a virtual {{hug}} and say "chin up chuck" because you're down in the dumps.

It makes me feel better to be able to speak to people who know what I'm talking about.

Life is tough, but at least with sites like this you have a place to talk and people who will listen.

Strokes versus hypo
hi Buffy: I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, if you found your husband unresponsive, you could still take a quick finger stick to determine whether or not it was a low blood sugar versus a stroke. In any event, if a person is unresponsive and not easily awakened, you still need to call an ambulance for transport to the ER. If your husband's blood sugar was very very high, you could administer his insulin. If his blood sugar was very very low, you could administer glucagon if it is available.
