Aspirin or no aspirin!!
Since I was diagnosed as a Type one nearly 3 years ago, I have been prescribed a 75mg aspirin every day. A few days ago. the headlines in the Daily Mail told us all that the benefits of aspirin for Diabetics had not been proven and that it could be doing more harm than good.
Does anyone else get confused by the mixed messages that we recieve and does it lead you to doubt some of the expert advice we are given?

To Take or Not to take

Aspirin
Well from what I have read and seen the doctors seem to be saying that if you have had no heart problems in the past, then the aspirin won't do much for you, other than maybe give you stomach problems from taking it. Perhaps you should talk this over with your diabetic team (if you have one). The following is taken from the British Medical Journal's website
"Conclusion This trial does not provide evidence to support the use of aspirin or antioxidants in primary prevention of cardiovascular events and mortality in the population with diabetes studied."

Re: Aspirin or no aspirin!!
I have read that if you need it (!!) you should take it in the middle of your main meal - less damage to the inside bits!

This latest research study seems a good one and has brought up valid points. Asprin can cause bleeding in the stomach...it is after all an acid in it's own right. I have never really understood why so many were on it other than the wish to thin blood to help prevent strokes....but quite a lot of patients on asprin are also on medication for peptic/stomach ulcers such as omeprazole and lansoprazole.
Dooooh !!!
If I see anything about it in one of the vascular or diabetic journals I'll post more on here about it.
