To intruduce your families to the Forum.

I am the wife of a T2 and am learning a lot just reading from members experiences.

The main reason that the Forum is here is for people with D, but it's a scary time for the whole family. I go with my hubby to as many of his medical appointments as I can and have a basic understanding of T2....... But our kids have been really worried and confused about the whole thing.

So if you have family or friends that are having trouble understanding D or they feel that they are unable to talk to you, as a sufferer, send them along here for a chat Smile

In my family I am the one with the dreaded D. I wish my family would log on as it would give them a greater understanding.

Now I have found this forum I have more help and more people who understand. I have been using diabetesbuddies.com for over a year. the set up and ethos is different, but both forums are doing a great job in helping those who would otherwise be isolated or with out support.

When I am in the pits of despair, it is nice to know I can log on and find someone who will understand.

Hi Clare

I think it is good that you are so involved with your hubby's D. My husband doesn't like computers but he does know what my bg levels should be and has seen how certain foods affect bg so understands why I have to keep bg levels stable and he understands I have to keep my BP down too. He helps me in other ways, like reminding me to take my tablets, because I have forgotten a few times, and he is interested in how I get on when I go see the nurse and have tests etc. He is quite a bit older than me and suffers from arthritis and takes tablets for depression (which he takes tablets for and is ok on them). His older son moved out last year and so we have the one son living with us now, he is 19 yo on Friday, and this gives us something else to occupy us. The boy's mother died of cancer 10 years ago, when she was 50 yo. I also have two grown up sons, and we have a little dog and a kitten. I didn't know anything about type 2 diabetes when dx although I knew people who had had diabetes and had developed complications from it (type 1 and type 2), so it was scary news, but I didn't know about the kinds of food to avoid (apart from sugar) or anything about blood glucose levels and diabetes etc. Doing the family tree I have found and having contact with relatives I didn't know before I have found out I have a cousin with type 2 and a distant relation with type 2. I do inform the boys about diabetes 2 so they are aware of how to keep it at bay, I hope.

I'm the sweet one in my family. These forums are a great help, but I am having a tough time educating everyone else not to buy me chocolates and stuff. the last two or three years have been an emotional roller coaster in one way and another, so the support here is more than just valuable.

It's nice to come and see what everyone else is up to and to sometimes be able to help others too. bounce lol!
