Unused Insulin
Hello,
It's been quiet on here for ages, hopefully someone is still here!
I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do with unused vials of insulin? I have about 4 vials of Apidra in my fridge, unopended and still in date. I heave heard that Apidra is hard to get hold of at the moment.
I think it is too wasteful to throw things like this away at the best of times, but especially if it is in short supply! The chemist will take it from me but only to throw it away (I can do that myself!). My diabetes centre used to take in stuff like this, but they have stopped that now.
It would be a shame to waste it, as there is nothing wrong with the vials, (I moved back to using Novorapid).

Re: Unused Insulin
Hi Beanie,
I'm still here !
I think the only thing that you can do is to give it to the pharmacist to dispose of in whatever way they feel fit (probably return to base). You can't pass it onto anyone legally as it was prescribed for you and really you shouldn't just bin it in the landfill bin or in a Sharps only box.
Best wishes
Nick

Re: Unused Insulin
Thanks Nick,
I'll give it to the Chemist and hope they don't destroy it but do something good with it.
I don't like waste. We are lucky to have medications readily avaliable (on the whole) and I'm sure there are sick people across the world begging for basic care. Just something that frustrates me. (Although, yes I can see perfectly why I can't just give it to someone else in the UK)
