And now......

Post  Clare on Tue Sep 07, 2010 12:42 pm

I've seen a friend of mine who's a Chinese Medicine Practitioner (well, something like that Rolling Eyes ) and she's diagnosed me with a wheat and gluten intolerance Shocked
So yesterday I started my new diet. I can eat as much meat, fruit and veg as I like, I just have to read every label of everything I want to buy.

I know that it's very new to me (Bekka's doing the diet too) but we both feel better today - no toast this morning!
I need to lose about 5 stone, so I'm pleased that this diet has come along when my health is so bad. Losing the weight will help with all of my other problems and I won't have to do any major exercise - a non-starter with all my aches and pains.

We've been shopping and bought a load of special flours, meat, fresh fish and lots of fresh veg.
I've ordered a bread maker that has a specialist "gluten free" programme and tonight we're treating ourselves with a homemade coconut sponge.

Wish us luck Very Happy

Hi darling
One of my best friends is gluten free and makes her own bread twice a week and slices it then freezes it and takes just the slices she needs out the night before she needs them.... but yes, you need to read the labels of everything!!!!!!!!

I'm actually really optimistic about the whole thing. I needed this kick up the bum and it's come just at the right time.
As we're both doing it, it'll be a lot easier - we're already thinking up different recipes Smile
My friend also has a health food shop, so you never know, if they're any good, our foodstuffs could be sold to the unsuspecting public Wink

Life is good today Laughing

I've just completed my first whole wheat free week and I have to say that I do feel a lot better.
I have real ankles again!!!! Not little fat sponges Rolling Eyes

We had our first proper dinner party on Sunday - roast lamb with all the trimmings, chocolate gateaux, cheese and biscuits - and neither Bekka or myself touched anything with either wheat or gluten in. I was so proud of both of us Very Happy
We had our own plate of "special" biscuits for the cheese (neither of us like gateau) and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I could kill for a proper sandwich though - the first two attempts at bread were a disaster No ........I'll have to try again later.
I did make some soup for us with the leftover meat which we'll have for our lunch today Very Happy

I've had to tighten my belt by two holes.....It's definitely working cheers

Well done Clare.

The breadmaking thing just takes practice. We went through a phase of doing our own bread and Dave thought it was really easy and managed to mess up 3 loaves before admitting it wasnt as easy as it looked. You could cheat and get a bread maker, which is my next purchase cause i miss fresh bread, but dont have time to make one myself.

Erm.....I've got one Embarassed

Because the flour is wheat and gluten free it's made differently. The machine I've got has a w/gf cycle.......but getting the quantities and the order right is a pain in the bum - I will succeed! I didn't realise how much I'd miss bread No
