Eye testing

I have my eye test next week. This is a 6 month check though, so I'm a bit worried. Last time (at my yearly one) they were arguing as to if there was something on the back of my eye or not. Even so they didn't seem to concerned. But I do panic over these things.

I'm just wondering, if they did find anything would that definitly mean I would have to have my eye lasered? Or are there other things you can do?
Don't really fancy the idea of a laser in my eye (fancy the idea of going blind less though!)

Just because you may have a slight bleed or bulging in the back of your eye doesn't mean that you must have laser. These things can self repair if they are minor in the first place.

Try not to worry and if you ahve got a bleed then at least you'll know that they have found it and are in a position to do something about it.

I went for my test on Wednesday, and they said there were 'white spots' on the back of my eye. I'm not sure what that is exactly, but it's not good. Anyway the lady said that they can shrink with good glucose control (well I have been trying but no point in saying any thing it's her job to tell me that) and I have to go back in 6 months.
Also the drops stung bad this time (usually my eyes just dry out) and they were sensitive to the light for a couple of days although my pupils had shrunk back.

So, being quite upset, (even though I expected bad news and happy that I didn't need a laser in my eye) I marched my self off to my nurse where they have now put in my referal for a pump. Not what I wanted two months ago (or last week! Ha-ha), but I can't be living with eye problems already (no matter how small) I was only diagnosed 2 years ago, and I am honestly (cross my heart) doing everything I can to try and control my bg. Even my nurse had to admit that she doesn't know what else to do with me. At the moment I am doing 8 injections a day! Each one split in two, in a mega attempt at getting some form of control, which is a major pain in the bottom.

Hopefully the pump will help in a big way, but I'm not sure how long it all takes and IF I will even get one!

Mmm well glad the problem wasn't too bad with your eyes. I don't like the sound of all those jabs though. Is the nurse solely in charge of you or have you seen a Diabetic Consultant? If you haven't then I would demand to be seen by one ASAP. Nurses are NOT Consultants and even if they are diabetic 'specialist' nurses they often have no more qualifications than your average nurse, just have been on diabetic courses.

It grieves me to say that some are given power way above their ability and if they have 'no idea' then they should be referring you to a Consultant very quickly.

OK I'll climb off my soap box now It's been a long hard week with problem feet and it's only Tuesday !

Yeah I know the jabs sound extreame. She set it up I think more to try and convince me that I needed a pump (because you can give your meal time doses in all manor of ways). I should also have said it's only for two weeks to see what happens,(I won't do it for longer) next step is trying a different insulin.

I like her though, I do think that she is trying to help, the last one I had kind of just worked from only what she learnt on her course and not much else. (You know, one of the ones that thinks you MUST be lying if what you say isn't in the hand book. Lol)
I have to say that my specialist isn't much use. She went to him and said "What on earth am I meant to do with this girl?" (Ha-ha). So she told him about trying the 100 injections a day method and he said "Let me know how you get on" What use is that?

I'm kind of excited about the pump now, more because it would be nice to have some 'normality' even if I am connected to a pump 24/7. I feel so good and healthy when I wake up with a good BG it sets you up for the day. Waking with a 17 just makes you want to cry. Lol
