Sorry to post on such a squeamish subject. I have been type 2 diabetic for at least 12 years and my control for many years was really bad, metformin did nothing for me so last year they put me on insulin - magic, control at last. I have no major problems with my feet etc etc but my eyes are really damaged. Even though my blood pressure and sugars are controlled now since last year my eyes have been getting worse and worse and a lot of fluid is behind the middle of my eye. i wasnt to sure which section to post this in, but i just wanted clarification on what others thought of it.

when i was a member of another diabetes site there were quite a few folks who were low carbing. i know this can be very good for type 2's who struggle with their levels. but what alarmed me was that there were people on there advocating no carbing!!!!! they were even telling type 1's to do it as it was safe!!!! im sorry and correct me if i am wrong but i am certain that ...

Hello everyone,

I have been a type II diabetic for the past 10 years. Right now I'm on glucothage and two types of insulin. I take Lantis once a day to simulate what would be the normal basal insulin. When I have meals or snacks I take a quick acting insulin, Humalog to bolus the food being ingested. Following this regimen, requires that I take my blood sugars many times a day, I feel motivated to continue doing this because my blood sugars are very stable my last A1 C. was 5.3.

My husband is a type 2 diabetic and I look after him. He used to be on tablets but has progressed to insulin.

He is to have one long lasting jab...... he is disabled and very inactive. He just potters about the house and when we go out he uses a scooter.

The dose started at 12 units for the first 3 days, then up to 16 units for 4 days and so on. At the minute he is up to 30 units per day and the nurse said it could go up to way over 40 units.

The reason he ...

A new treatment for Type 2 diabetes has hit the headlines today. Liraglutide (Victoza), a once-daily injectable treatment for Type 2 diabetes, is pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk’s latest brainchild.

From the Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) family of drugs, it can be taken any time of day, irrespective of meals. It helps to control Type 2 diabetes by stimulating ...

Diabetes Medication May Be Linked To Lower Risk Of Death From Cardiovascular Disease

ScienceDaily (Nov. 3, 2008) — The diabetes medication metformin may be associated with a lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, according to a meta-analysis of previously published studies. No associations were found between other diabetes medications and beneficial or harmful cardiovascular effects, in part because of insufficient data, the authors note.

I have had the result of my HbA1c test which was 8.6mmol/l - which, considering I've only been watching what I eat for two weeks, is pretty good and shows that I should be able to, initially, control my diabetes with diet only.

The definition of this test by Diabetes UK is:
