Hi

This is Victoria and I am 52 - I live in Derbyshire. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 2 years ago and at first I was just treated by diet alone. Things didn't work out so I was prescribed Metformin - I take two with breakfast and one with my evening meal.

I still haven't got to terms with being a diabetic - I have got a very sweet tooth and being diabetic makes life difficult! I would be pleased to hear of any recipies of delicious puddings that don't upset my diabetes!!! Thank ...

Hello everyone, I've just joined after reading of a article from Imogen in Nov/Dec Balance so thought I'd have a look.

I've been type 1 for 42 years and generally find it easy to get on with. Not always the case particularly when young as didn't understand and support was pretty useless so I'm a bit envious of all the support there is now. I take a pretty light hearted approach to diabetes and, whilst I take it v serious inside, on the outside I'm very jovial about it, sometimes making jokes ...

I'm a mum of a son (Joe) who has been recently diagnosed with type 1, he is really having a hard time dealing with it ( he is 20, by the way), he doesnt eat properly or test his blood, has had problems injecting . I feel there is no help sorting these sorts of problems out, he really needs to speak to someone who knows what its like, preferably in his age group. I'm hoping he will eventually write on here.

Hi everyone, well despite my nic, I'm not actually a girl, I'm 48 and am Type 1. I was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 14 and remember every miserable detail of that time, and the years that followed. I also found this forum through the pages of Balance. However, I am one of those "people" who had problems with Human Insulin and have managed to get myself off the stuff after a 20 year struggle. Emotionally, I was a wreck from day one, and like most other diabetics have had to find ...

Unfortunately, 3 months later I was admitted to hospital with DKA after losing a lot of weight rapidly (Good) and my eyesight deteriorating (not so good), and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes .

The only downside was when I was first diagnosed it took about between 10 - 12 weeks to actually have information other than reading db uk, and ...

Hiya,

I am Claire and I was diagnosed in 1997 when I was eleven years old. I live with my husband and our two kittys! I have just got back on track with my diabetes after not looking after not taking my insulin as I should and eating all the wrong things. After so many years of running blood sugars no lower than 17 I finally realised I had to start taking it. I have just been put on DAFNE by wansbeck hospital. And I take Insultard in the morning and evening and Novorapid when I eat. I ...

Dear (D***S) or should it be Admin.

Hello,

Don't loose hope having recently been diagnosed with diabetes. My fatefull day was 04/04/88 so I am now in my 21st year, also a member of the retinopathy clinic. Which monitor me every 4 months at the moment, as they have now got all the digital toys and appreciate the practice. I consider my self more fortunate than others as I was 24 when first diagnosed and not any younger.

I'll pop back when I can (when not modding on the other site) ...

Hi

I am Jenny from Sussex. I have two adult sons and live with my husband, Bernard, and his teenage son. Bernard also has an adult son. We also have a small dog and a kitten. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes February 2006 and control it with Metformin and diet. I also control blood pressure and cholesterol levels with tablets. As I am thin (after losing a lot of weight before diagnosis). I feel better now and my brain is not so foggy as it was, either, now my blood sugar is under control.

Hello.

My name's Rob. I'm 43, and have been on insulin for about 30 years. At present, I have no complications, but have had a few warning shots over the last few years. My wife does her best to feed me healthily and I get a fair amount of exercise, though this hasn't always been the case.

Looking back, I probably spent the first 20 years in denial and then, with the help of more modern insulins, decided to get off my backside and do things I'd always thought I couldn't.

I've never smoked, ...
